I take what you are saying to mean that both 5 16 and 3 8 engineered wood are very thin therefore it comes down not to the the small thickness difference but to the manufacturing mill process of the wood itself.

5 16 inch solid this is a thinner version of the 3 4 inch hardwood floor.
Our thin wood sizes are not nominal for example if you order a 6 wide board you will get a board exactly 6 wide or wider.
